March 4, 2004 is International Scrapbooking Industry Day.

Novi, MI March 2, 2004--The scrapbooking industry has exploded in growth to more than $3 billion a year in the U.S. alone. The first annual International Scrapbooking Industry Day, on March 4, 2004, will commemorate both the growing and powerful industry, as well as the entrepreneurs who are helping to fuel its growth. Locally, J. Nelson Arts is a member of this emerging industry, having built a business to help bring scrapbooking to area residents.

Scrapbooking is the art of safely and creatively showcasing photos and memorabilia in albums using archival, acid-free albums and products. Its official origins began in 1981 in Utah, when AJ and Marielen Christensen launched the first scrapbook supplies store. In the late '90s and early '00s, the industry grew exponentially across the world. There are now an estimated 3,000 retail scrapbook stores in the U.S., along with nearly 2,000 manufacturers, tens of thousands of direct sales consultants, and hundreds of web sites. A great portion of businesses and services in the scrapbooking industry were launched by scrapbook enthusiasts wanting to build a career around their passion.

Such was the case with J. Nelson Arts. J. Nelson Arts was started in July of 2003 by college student Donyell J. Nelson. "I always had an entrepreneurial spirit, and when I found scrapbooking, I knew there had to be a way to combine my two loves- entrepreneurship and scrapbooking."

"Many people want to make sure that their memories are properly saved for generations to come," explains Donyell J. Nelson. "And once people discover scrapbooking, they're usually hooked. That's one of the main reasons the industry has grown so quickly."
